Shimmy Beach Club — voted Cape Town’s hottest club by Zomato (ed: they’ve got the most heaters?) is gearing up to host a Studio 54 Themed party on 15 June. If you’re not familiar with Studio 54, it’s the famous 70s New York club where all the famous people hung out and did cocaine — basically the most famous club of all time. More famous than Fight Club, The Breakfast Club, and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club COMBINED.
Think: Michael Jackson, Rod Stewart, Andy Warhol, Mick Jagger, Liza Minnelli, Dolly Parton, Diana Rossand. That’s one big party. Starting out in ’77 and lasting for just 33 months, the original Studio 54 made over US$7 million in its first year in the business. Bianca Jagger rode a white horse through the club on her 30th birthday. Steve Rubell once gifted Andy Warhol an entire bin full of money for his birthday. There’s even a pic of Michael Jackson hanging out with Woody Allen inside the fabled halls of the infamous Studio 54, which kinda makes a lot of sense in retrospect.
Drink, boogie, shake and Shimmy the night away with some of Cape Town’s finest and some of the world’s flyest. Visit Shimmy on 15 June to relive one of the most legendary nightclubs in the world. And as the old Studio 54 mantra goes, in order to ensure a great, glam party: invite guests more interesting than you.
