Cape Town streets awash with life at the Colour Run 18 October 2014

That’s right fellow Capetowners, it’s that time of year when we can all temporarily take leave of our senses in an event born from a celebration of our health, happiness, individuality and unity in this known in over 50 countries world-wide as a vibrant family friendly race that elates both body and soul!

This year’s Colour Run is powered by the gentlemen at Vodacom as the Colour Runners indulge on an ecstatic journey of the senses as they journey down what could easily be the happiest 5km metropolitan straight on the planet!

Life's a blast as demonstrated here in a Colour Blast Throw!

Heart 104.9FM, the city?s biggest Radio Station, is the official media partner and will be out in full force. Tickets have recently been released online and Color Runners can pre-register for the 2014 event series. Entries are filling up fast so enter now at www.thecolorrun.co.za before the race sells out. Groups of four buddies or more receive a special discount and kids under ten run free, provided they are accompanied by an adult.

Participants will receive their free race packs full of goodies to wear at the event, including a The Color Run t-shirt, headband, temporary tattoos and race number. A free packet of powder will be handed out at the finish line to kick off signature Color Blasts in the festival zone.

The fun will start at 9am at the Green Point Soccer Club with a scenic 5 kilometre route along the Sea Point Promenade. At the start of the race participants will be depart in 3 minute waves, to ensure that Color Runners have enough room to move along the route.

Much like anything worth doing the finish-line is well within reach for folks who will not only have laughed themselves from beginning to end but are able to share their triumph with family and friends as they attend the various food stalls, music and give-aways for some good clean fun in the festival zone afterwards.

Let the good times roll!

RULES TO REMEMBER FOR COLOUR RUNNERS – NB!

Color Runners should arrive at the start wearing the white t-shirt and headbands provided in their race packs. Heart 104.9FM DJ’s will fire up the starting line with.

thumping tunes as the start gun triggers off the race and the festival of colour begins. In each colour zone, volunteers blast participants with clouds of brightly coloured powder. The race ends with a colour-throwing party where Runners and spectators get to make the world a more vibrant place whilst dancing to their favourite music.

Don’t let the term Color Runners stop you from entering. The Color Run™ is a non-timed event, and is more about having fun than competing for Olympic gold. 60% of Color Runners are first-time runners, participating for the sheer joy of doing something unique, healthy and fun. So run, jog, walk, rollerblade, get pushed in a pram … anything goes at The Color Run™. There?s only one rule: have the most colourful fun of your life.

After all, it’s not called “the Happiest 5k on the Planet” for nothing. Just check out this promo video if you don’t believe me!

Some might suspect that “the messiest 5k” is an apt name for the event, but you needn?t worry about going to work on Monday morning with hair like Nicki Minaj. The Color Run™ powder washes off easily from hair and skin, and with a bit of washing power, it also comes out of clothes (just don?t wear your best outfit!).

Once the fun is wrapped up, we begin the clean-up process of five kilometers of organic corn starch, which is what the colour powder is comprised of. The corn starch is dyed with organic food colouring, completely safe and natural, and the local cleaning company has a swift job dusting off the colour around the route.

Fortunately, there?s a lot that stays behind after The Color Run™ – not just great memories and technicolour photos. Despite being a global initiative, The Color Run™ sources local suppliers for each event. The Color Run™ is also a socially conscious event platform that uses proceeds to give back to the local community.
