About 200 children from schools around Johannesburg descended on Constitution Hill last Thursday – Madiba’s birthday – to take part in Humane Education’s workshops on Respect for Non-Human Beings.
Already learners come to Constitution Hill daily to learn about the history of South Africa. What a thrill it was for the Humane Education Trust (HET) to receive Constitution Hill’s invitation to add a humane education component to the learners’ visits!
HET has supplied the Children’s Room at Constitution Hill with all 24 of our resources and a CD player as well so that the learners can put their burgeoning new-found awareness of animal sentience to song and dance.
As Managing Trustee of HET, Louise van der Merwe said she would like to thank Reuben Phasha, Heritage, Education and Tourism Manager at Constitution Hill, and Dolores Joseph, personal assistant to Professor David Bilchitz, Director of SAIFAC, for their invitation to be part of Thursday’s celebrations. (That’s them in the photo on the left)
HET will soon start workshops for teachers at Constitution Hill so that they can take humane education forward on a daily basis.
We would like to wish Louise, HET and everyone involved all the best as well as appreciation along side Louise to all their donors who make progress like this possible.
